TERMS AND CONDITIONS

THE PRIZE & JUDGING

The Henry Jones Art Hotel Art Prize is $20,000 and is acquisitive with the winning artwork being retained by the Federal Group as part of their collection.

A panel of three judges will review entries and nominate finalists for exhibition. From these finalists, the judging panel will select the winner.

The 2019 The Henry Jones Art Hotel Art Prize is coordinated by a committee representing The Henry Jones Art Hotel. The judges and selection panel will be nominated by The Henry Jones Art Hotel Management and their decision is final.

ELIGIBILITY

The Henry Jones Art Prize considers an emerging artist:

  • Is in the early stages of pursuing a career as an artist, whether a graduate, still studying or having had a career change where art is becoming a priority
  • Deemed by the panel to be an early career artist

The Henry Jones Art Prize is open to Tasmanian residents only, over the age of 18 and is free to enter.

Entries (one only) are to be submitted online by 5pm, 4th October, 2019 and to be eligible it must include:

  • The completed entry form
  • A high quality image of the work
  • Artist Statement
  • A single page CV

A single piece of work will be considered for the award and is open to original two dimensional works in:

  • Painting
  • Drawing
  • Printmaking
  • Photography
  • Mixed media

Artwork submitted must have been completed since June 2018.

Artworks previously exhibited in awards and competitions are ineligible.

The overall size is not to exceed 1.25 metres in width or height (including frame) including multi panel work, and not exceed 15kg in weight.

Works must be the created and signed work of the exhibiting artist.

All work must be framed or stretched and dried on a timber frame with no warping securely wired for hanging (including D-rings) and in excellent presentation. The Henry Jones Art Hotel management reserves the right to refuse work deemed unsatisfactory or unsafe for hanging.  Please be advised that if your work is chosen as a finalist for exhibition, it may be hung in direct sunlight due to layout of the venue.

SALES

All work must be available for sale and sales will be confirmed by email.

A commission of 25% will be retained by The Henry Jones Art Hotel and it is the responsibility of represented artists to advise their gallery of their entry into awards and no negotiations will be entered into with represented artist’s galleries.

If work is purchased, a tax invoice less 25% commission must be lodged by the artist, before payment by The Henry Jones Art Hotel can be made.

KEY DATES

  • Entries open 9am, 1st April 2019
  • Entries close 5pm, 4th October, 2019
  • Finalists will be notified online on 25th October 2019. Finalists to deliver artwork 9am – 3:30pm on Monday 25th November.
  • The Exhibition will be open to the public for 11 days from 10am to 5pm on Thursday 28th November –Sunday 8th December 2019, at The Henry Jones Art Hotel in the Packing Room and Atrium.
  • Unsold artworks to be collected 9am-2 pm on Monday 9th December 2019

LICENSING

  • The artist warrants that the artwork created is original and does not breach any intellectual property rights including copyright of any third party.  The artist indemnifies The Henry Jones Art Hotel from any alleged or actual breaches of intellectual property rights i pertaining to their artwork.
  • The artist agrees to grant The Henry Jones Art Hotel a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to reproduce their artwork in any promotional materials associated with The Henry Jones Art Prize. 

INSURANCE

Whilst works are displayed at the Henry Jones Art Hotel all due care will be taken and the exhibition will be manned during the exhibition’s opening hours. However, the ultimate risk of exhibiting work in a public place rests with the artist and artists are recommended to have their own insurance.

DELIVERY/COLLECTION OF WORK

  • Work delivered must be CLEARLY LABELED on the reverse with the artist name, title and sell price.
  • Delivery of works is to The Henry Jones Art Hotel between 9am – 3:30pm on Monday 25th November, unless otherwise arranged with the art curator.
  • Arrangements must be made for unsold work to be collected from The Henry Jones Art Hotel between from 9am-2 pm on Monday 9th December 2019. No responsibility will be taken for any works not collected within this time.
  • The Exhibition will be open to the public for 11 days from 10am to 4pm on Thursday 28th November –Sunday 8th December 2019.
  • Any packaging used to deliver the item must be taken away as no storage will be available on site for the duration of the exhibition.

PRIVACY

Artists agree that information and details relating to the artworks may be published and used by The Henry Jones Art Hotel for the purposes of The Henry Jones Art Hotel Art Prize, The Henry Jones Art Hotel and its related entities.  Personal information will be managed and protected in accordance with the Federal Group privacy policy available at www.federalgroup.com.au/privacy-policy/
